Porzak Browning & Bushong LLP

Gunnar J. Paulsen, (Associate)

Karen L. HendersonGunnar joined Porzak Browning and Bushong LLP as an associate attorney in October 2018, where his practice focuses on intra and inter-state water rights.

Knowing that he wanted to pursue a career in water law, the University of Colorado School of Law was the obvious choice for Gunnar, where he received his degree in 2018. In addition to a doctrinal course load rich with water, environmental, and natural resources courses, Gunnar focused on building hands- on experience in those fields. Gunnar managed and volunteered for the Acequia Assistance Project at Colorado Law, where he helped historic irrigator cooperatives in the San Luis Valley secure and maintain water rights in Colorado’s water court system. He also clerked for the Colorado Attorney General’s Office in the Natural Resources and Environment Section, representing state agencies. Gunnar participated in multiple moot court competitions while a student, including representing Colorado Law at the 2018 National Environmental Moot Court Competition at Pace University. For his leadership in his chosen field, Gunnar was awarded the Gary C. Bryner Award for Distinguished Service by Colorado Law faculty in 2018.

Prior to law school, Gunnar served as an AmeriCorps VISTA for two years in Salida, Colorado where he helped connect next generation farmers and ranchers with access to land and water across the state. Gunnar received a B.A. in English and Political Science from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Although Gunnar grew up in Sandpoint, Idaho, he and his wife call Colorado home. His hobbies include fishing, cross-country skiing, trail running in the hills, or out enjoying Colorado’s fantastic arts and music.

Admitted to the Colorado bar in 2018.
